Minnesota’s experimental, environmentally conscious Cloud Cult – formed in the mid-90s as the solo project of Craig Minowa – has expanded into an 8-piece indie rock powerhouse boasting ten albums chock full of wiry guitars, operatic orchestration, and lyrics meditating on the mysteries that saddle the human existence. The band’s nonprofit label Earthology Records, housed on Minowa’s organic farm, is powered by geothermal energy, and every performance features live painting, with the finished artworks auctioned for charity after the show. With the release of its 2016 album The Seeker, Cloud Cult has gone even further creatively, pairing the music with a feature-length film starring How I Met Your Mother’s Josh Radnor.
