MadFiddle is a youth violin ensemble (ages 6-17) that explores fiddle music and song from around the world. This season, their repertoire draws upon the traditions of Appalachian, Celtic, bluegrass, Brazilian, ragtime, Eastern and blues folk tunes, and also features compositions by artists on the forefront of today’s acoustic music scene.
MadFiddle performs with the adult backing band known as Highway 151. This rhythmic backbone features the talents of Chris Powers (mandolin, bouzouki), Pat Spaay (upright bass) and Bruce Anderson (guitar).
MadFiddle & Highway 151 have performed at venues ranging from opera houses to saloons to street corners. This year they have appeared at Overture’s Capitol Theater, Barrymore Theater, High Noon Saloon and Trinity United Methodist Church.
The group is directed by Shauncey Ali, who was named 2016’s "Teacher of the Year" by the Madison Area Music Association for his excellence in music education within the community.
