Health & Safety Guidelines - Updated September 7th, 2023
We have been getting some questions about covid/illness rules during the upcoming 2023-2024 Performance Season.
Here is what we are asking of our Staff and Crew and Artists to keep us all from getting sick at the same time:
If you don’t feel well test yourself for Covid before coming to the theater.
If you have tested positive for Covid in the last 10 days stay home until you test negative.
If you have tested positive for Covid in the last 10 days and are now testing negative wear a mask until day 10 when around other people - especially at the theater.
If someone in your house has Covid (or the flu, or whatever) but you feel fine, play it safe and wear a mask until you know what is going on.
Patrons - We know that there are a lot of different ways of handling Covid and illness - not everyone is going to test themselves for Covid whenever they feel unwell. Here is generally what we expect from you as a courtesy:
If you are sick or feel unwell stay home! You can stream the show from home instead or get a credit to use later.
If you appear obviously ill you may be asked to put on a mask (we have some) or even to leave the theater. If you’re coughing or sneezing a lot…look like you should probably lay down somewhere for awhile - that sort of thing…Covid or whatever, nobody wants to get whatever you have.
What are the current restrictions to attend a performance at the Opera House?
Things are looking pretty good right now. See the info above. Also, there is nothing wrong with wearing a mask to a show - we even have them for free if you change your mind when you arrive.
I am immunocompromised, unvaccinated, or otherwise vulnerable to infection.
We recommend wearing an N95 mask if you choose to attend shows. Please review CDC guideline HERE and Dane County guidelines HERE.
I already have tickets, but now I don’t feel comfortable coming!
If you have already purchased tickets and no longer wish to attend please CLICK HERE to arrange for a credit to be used at a later date or switch to a streaming ticket - almost all of the shows will also be available to attend remotely.
Is this for every show?
You will receive an email if requirements change after you purchase a ticket to a show and be given the opportunity to receive a refund or credit or switch to a stream. Hopefully, we won’t see that happen this season so much.
What steps will the Opera House take to ensure safety during upcoming performances?
There is no way to ensure a completely safe experience when it comes to the risk of Covid infections or other illness. When you enter the Opera House for any reason you are acknowledging your understanding of the potential risks. That said, we have taken steps that by now are surely familiar: hand sanitizing stations, hands free fixtures in our restrooms, etc.
