A showcase of some of Madison's finest jazz musicians featuring the Jon Hoel Trio, Barbacoa, and the Gerri DiMaggio World Jazz Unit. With genres ranging from traditional vocal swing to modern avant garde to funk, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
Featuring Ben Ferris on bass and Kelby Kryshak on drums, the Jon Hoel Trio is one of Madison's hardest working jazz groups. Playing originals and seldom played standards, the group focuses on exploring the jazz idiom, sometimes pushing the limits and other times staying deep in the pocket. They have performed at the Catfish River Music Festival, Orton Park Festival, and the Greater Madison Jazz Consortium's Strollin’ series.
Barbacoa is an instrumental R&B quartet featuring some of the most sought after musicians in the Madison, WI area. The band consists of Tony Barba-tenor saxophone, Mike Cammilleri-Hammond organ, Richard Hildner on electric guitar, and Chris Sandoval-drums
Gerri DiMaggio World Jazz Unit--With the sound of a nightclub singer right out of a 1940's film noir, Gerri DiMaggio evokes romantic nostalgia with a modern edge. Her expressive singing, warm earthiness, and emotional insight, prove that she is a true believer in the power of storytelling.
Her show is a sultry mix of songs from the American Songbook with a modern edge, to Brazilian Jazz with a seductive sound that invites the audience into her own creative and colorful world.
